Day Eight of the Novena

The Novena to Queen Isabel is drawing to a close. Note that on Saturday, after it has ended, I will be putting up a few posts on her life and some of the myths surrounding it.

Novena to Her Most Majestic Highness,
The Venerable Servant of God
Queen Isabel the Catholic of Castile

Novena Prayer

O God, who did see fit to place Queen Isabel upon the throne of Castile
And thereby give us a model of Christian piety and virtue in government,
We beseech You that, through your grace, we may imitate Isabel in our daily lives
And thereby become examples of virtue ourselves for our neighbors.
We also implore that you may grant this request (state intention) we make to you through the intercession of this holy and venerable Queen.
We ask all this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

The Novena Prayer is followed by two Hail Marys, in honor of Queen Isabel.

Day Eight – Protector of the Innocent

Holy Isabel, during your reign as Queen you proved yourself a ready defender of righteousness in your constant battles against corruption and injustice. You sought to protect the innocent and the helpless even through your last days as Queen and encouraged, through your example, the nobles of Spain to do the same. We turn to you now with special urgency and implore you to intercede for the innocent and the helpless of our society, especially those children who, born and unborn, are in grave danger.

Secure in our belief that you will not abandon us as you never abandoned your subjects, we further ask you for grant the petition we make in this novena (state intention) and ask you to intercede for this and for all our prayers with Jesus Christ who is Lord forever and ever.
